MUJI Portland's First Anniversary - Press Release (2019)

PORTLAND, OREGON – This month, MUJI Portland celebrates the one-year anniversary of its grand opening with a series of special promotions, giveaways, weekend celebrations, and free workshops throughout November.

Designed by renowned Japanese studio, Super Potato, the Portland flagship delivers a unique in-store experience that reflects the design legacy of MUJI and honors the rich creative community that makes up the city of Portland. A key element of success for the Portland store -- which is both its first store in the Pacific Northwest and second largest store in the US to date -- was incorporating the local community into the design. This is exemplified by the Art Wall installation created by the Pacific Northwest College of Arts students using donated memorabilia, and Portland-sourced reclaimed wood can be found throughout the construction of the store.

On November 16th-17th, 23th-24th, and 27th, MUJI Portland will host a series of events, workshops, giveaways, and promotions to celebrate a successful first year in the Portland community.

Special offerings include complimentary Japanese pastries from Oyatsupan Bakers, limited-edition sweets and Bento Boxes created by Chef Naoko Tamura of Shizuku, and complimentary MUJI notebooks for customers customized with calligraphy by Sora Shodo.
